May 16, 2007 - The Fire Department responded to a structure fire on Nantucket Way that apparently was caused by a lightening strike. The Police Department did an excellent initial knock-down of the floor joists that had ignited from a ruptured gas pipe in the basement. The Fire Department interior attack crew enter the residence and advanced a 1 1/2" line into the area. A chair was still on fire which we immediately extinguished. It was then discovered that gas was still escaping from the line. This created an extremely hazardous condition inside the building. Chief Paul Perrotti moved quickly to the outside of the building to shut the gas off. Crews in the basement commenced ventilation operations to remove the gas and smoke. The Fire Department remained on-scene and ventilated with smoke ejectors and waited for representatives of Yankee Gas to arrive. The residence was then turn back over to the owners.
