On Saturday, May 12, 2007 the Middlebury Volunteer Fire Department hosted the premier of the Middlebury Bicentennial Video. This movie was a private showing exclusively for the sponsors of the video project. The members of the Fire Department and Ladies Auxiliary setup Fire Headquarters in a manner suiting such a prestigious event. Valet parking care of the Firefighters was offered, as well as exceptional food from Four Corners prepared by the Ladies Auxiliary. The apparatus floor was setup with a few tables and chairs, as well as small evergreens and white lattice trellises. An open bar of Soda, Champagne and Water was provided.
Following the hors duvres was the premier of the Bicentennial Movie entitled: Middlebury Connecticut 200 Years Our American Home. The guests were invited into the Fire Department meeting room where the training projector was converted into a movie screen. The 90 minute movie was introduced by Terry McAullife with a few additional words by Joseph Colombatto, the videographer.
The evening was a grand success, as guests were treated like royalty during their stay at the firehouse. During the video the Fire Department was also dispatched to an activated fire alarm on South St. The members, without hesitation, changed from their dress uniforms to their fire gear and headed to the call. When they returned they resumed their jobs at the premier.
The following Monday, May 14 the Fire Department in conjunction with the Middlebury Police Department hosted the annual brunch for the seniors in town. The Police Department provided the food as well as serving as waiters, and the Fire Department provided the location and additional help. Over 100 seniors attended and were treated to excellent food, as well as an "open bar" of juices, soda and water. Following brunch, the seniors were invited to a free showing of the Bicentennial Movie in the meeting room.
