I-84 East Exit 17 Onramp

On October 9, 2007 at approximately 9:30 am the Middlebury Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident on Route 63 by Turnpike Drive with injuries. Engine 3 and FD-11 responded to provide care for the patients, all of which refused medical treatment. FD-11 returned to Fire Headquarters, while Engine 3 remained on scene until all vehicles were removed from the road.

Just prior to the last car being loaded, a tone went out for a motor vehicle accident with an unresponsive party on I-84 East on the 17 onramp. FD-11 responded from Fire Headquarters with a full crew and Engine 3 responded from the scene of the previous accident. Enroute Northwest informed both units that per the Connecticut State Police the vehicle was reported to be on it's roof with 1 party still inside the vehicle and extrication was needed.

Upon arrival, FD-11's crew informed Northwest that the vehicle was on it's roof, and in Waterbury, and therefore Waterbury's Rescue response was dispatched as well. Engine 3 arrived to find FD-11's crew had gained access and was beginning patient removal. The victim was safely removed from the vehicle quickly, and was evaluated and transported to a local hospital. Waterbury's Engine 11 remained on scene for a short time after until the vehicle was removed.

Members of the Ambulance and Fire Department assist in removing the victim and placing the person on a backboard.
Patient care is continued, as vital signs are assessed, and the patient is further examined.
The view of the entire scene, patient care is carried out. The portable Hurst equipment kept on Engine 3 was taken out of the truck just in case, but was not needed.
